How to Plan a Scavenger Hunt
Scavenger hunts are great for clubs and organizations, and they are not all that hard to plan. The purpose of a scavenger hunt is to give people a chance to explore a room, building, or town in search of unique items they can bring back with them. Whoever gets the most items on the list wins a prize or the general glory of being the best. Here are some tips to help you plan a scavenger hunt all your own.
Think about Free and Logical Items
A scavenger hunt is only fun if it is feasible. You don’t want to send your hunters out for really specific items that they may never be able to get. You also don’t want them to have to pay for any of the items on the list, so don’t put something like “new printer cartridges” on the list if you can avoid it. More logical items would be salt packets, napkins, pine cones, and 
other items that your hunters can find without spending any money. You can make the hunt challenging without making it impossible.
Make a Long List
Your scavenger hunt should have a pretty long list of items to get. This will ensure that everyone has a chance to win because they will have multiple options for items to get. Ten or twenty items may be enough, depending on the size of the group you are working with. Collaborate with a few different people and come up with a list of items you think people could get for the hunt.
When you are done with the list, print it off. You may want to print one version of it at first and then make copies of the rest. That is because copier toner is cheaper to buy than toner cartridges. Every penny counts when you’re working with a group of people.
Set a Time
Set a time limit for the hunt so you know when to be back at a certain meeting place. This could be the place where everyone met at the start, or it could be a new destination entirely. Use walkie-talkies or cell phones to stay in touch during the hunt, just in case someone gets lost. Then feel free to explore.
