4 Ways in Which You Can Cut Printing Costs

If you print plenty of documents at home, using your inkjet printer you must have noticed that the expenses of paper and ink over time become huge. It hardly takes time to replete your ink cartridge, so what should you do to save some money. Here are some ways to cut down your excessive printing costs:

1. On Every Sheet, Print More Than a Single Page

This is probably the simplest way to save printing paper and it good printing PowerPoint presentations. For this go to the print dialog option and select Handouts from drop-down “Print what”. Next, select the number of slides you want per page. If you print only in Grayscale then you will also be saving the life of your ink cartridges. In the print dialog setting in Microsoft Word, you can find a similar printing option. Many laser printers offer a simple duplex option for printing on both the sides of paper.

2. Opt For Printing Multiple Selections on One Page

Don’t print a single selection but select multiple areas on the page, “clip” them, and print them later. This is good in case of laser printing and you can avail this Smart Web Printing application by HP for Firefox 2.0 and Internet Explorer.

3. Print Only the Selected Portion that You Need

Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Excel & Word have a feature that allows you print only a selection of text. Select the part of the text for printing and then go for the “Selection” option that you will find in the print dialog.

4. Use Options such as Shrink to Fit and Print Preview

You should first use Print Preview to prevent printing just a few lines on an almost empty page. Don’t click blindly on the print button but preview first. In this way, you will not be wasting tons of ink or plenty of paper. Print exactly the amount that you want. Internet Explorer and Firefox have an option named “Shrink to Fit” in the Print Preview dialogs that shrink the content to fit easily on fewer pages. Microsoft Word has a “Shrink One Page” option that shrinks the document by a page by reducing spacing and the size of the text.

New 24-Inch Large Format Printer by Canon

Canon has introduced the all-new 24-inch large format printer. Known as the imagePROGRAF iPF6000S, this large format printer with canon ink has the ability to deliver a perfect combination of quality, speed, and versatility. Those who will benefit from this printer by Canon are print-for-pay establishments and graphic art professionals.

Canon U.S.A., Inc., the leading provider of canon copier toner, office imaging systems, as well as digital photography equipment is happy about the product launch. Jim Rosetta, the vice president as well as general manager of Imaging Systems Group, Canon said, “In an attempt to meet all the demands of print professionals, Canon has made it a top priority to maintain the highest levels of quality at increased production speeds.” He further stated, “The imagePROGRAF S-Series, including the new iPF6000S, further extends our ability to offer clients and consumers an effective, top-tier solution to meet all their printing needs.”

The iPF6000S printer can print 24-inches wide sheet and both on cut and roll sheet and at the same time, it maintains a great speed that is 30% faster than the iPF6100 printer is. The iPF6000S printer can finish printing an A1 sized print in just 4 minutes in its high-quality print mode. Thus, you will get clear photographic images at impressively high speeds as it uses microscopic four picoliter droplets and LUCIA pigment ink.

The new LUCIA pigment ink for iPF6000S includes Cyan, Magenta, Photo Cyan, Yellow, Photo Magenta, Matte Black, Gray, and Black ink. The printer uses 2 high-density print heads with 30,720 nozzles. The printer boasts of its built-in color calibration system that helps you in getting consistency and precise color reproduction. The internal 80GB hard drive of this printer allows reprinting straightaway from the hard drive. You can access the content of this hard drive through a built-in Web server by using a browser. In this way, you will be able to streamline production workflows.

The printer driver also has an Economy Color Mode that minimizes the usage of light-density inks like Photo Magenta and Photo Cyan. This reduces the overall usage of ink and retains the color density.

Quick Fixes to Save Printer Ink (and the Printer Too)

HP #74XL Black Print Cartridge

With the sometimes exorbitant price tagged onto printer ink cartridges, it is no wonder that a lot of people would rather buy a new printer instead of a new cartridge.  Often times, it is more economical just throw the old printer away!

But then again, disposing of old printers that one does not use anymore can be another nightmare altogether.  Not all recycling centers take them, and it is always a shame to throw away old printers when they have been hardly used.

Not a lot of people know this, but if you want to cut around the costs of buying new printer ink and save a little money in the process, sometimes all you need to do is to know how to use your printer and take care of it.

Draft Print Mode

One neat trick that you can use when printing out documents is to use the draft printing mode on your machine.  Printing in draft mode makes your machine churn out documents a lot faster and uses a lot less ink than normal mode.

To do this, you would need to open the control panel of your computer and go to the printer folder.  Once you have opened that, click on the icon of your printer and select the settings.  From there, you can choose the option to print in draft mode.

Turn It Off

Another trick that you can use with your printer in order to save printer ink is to turn the machine on only when you are using it.  In other words, never leave your machine on when not in use.

Not only does leaving the printer on consume electricity unnecessarily, but it also leaves the heat on the printer ink cartridges.  The heat on the cartridges will cause the ink to clog the printer heads, and that is never a good thing as it damages your machine.

Test Print Every Week

You should also conduct a test print on your machine at least once every week.  This will make sure that the printer ink cartridges installed in your machine will not dry up, especially when you do not use your printer that often.

While it does save up on power when you do not use your machine that often, it does not necessarily mean that you can save up on printer ink.  The ink dries up when not in use, and this can clog up your printer head in a really nasty way.

Store the Machine Properly

Let us say that you got tired of the machine you are using and decided to buy a new one.  But then again, you are not entirely convinced about throwing out your old printer, and thus, you decide to put it in a box and keep it in storage.  This is good because you will never know when you would need an extra printer.

Before you store away your machine, you have to take out the printer ink cartridges first.  Whatever ink that is left inside the cartridges will dry up in storage after not being used and will, again, clog up your printer head.

Taking care of your printer can take you and your printer ink a long way.  So What are you waiting for?
